The Oakland Apollo Alliance

Blue Sky Bio-fuels is an active member in the Oakland Apollo Alliance, part of the nationwide Apollo Project, a broad coalition within the labor, environmental, business, urban and faith communities supporting good jobs and energy independence. Nationally, the Apollo Alliance is calling for a $300 billion, public-private program to free the U.S. from foreign oil dependence in 10 years, combating global warming, stimulating the economy and creating large numbers of new, well-paying jobs.
As co-convenor of the Oakland Apollo Alliance, and Executive Director of the Ella Baker Center, Van Jones believes strongly in the need to build the green economy. This green economy will lift people out of poverty, while offering clean renewable energy sources.
Additionally, Van Jones is a prominent figure in Oakland's struggle for all forms of justice and the support of our youth. The recent "oil independence" resolution which city hall signed into action in October 2005, is yet another piece of building support for the coming wave of green economic development.
City of Oakland
www.mayorrondellums.org
Ron Dellums, a career congressman, was recently elected as mayor to the City of Oakland. At 70 years old, Ron Dellums claims he was drafted into service as Mayor as he saw the great challenges and opportunities facing the City of Oakland and knew he could be of service to his hometown.
Below is an excerpt from his vision letter to the voters of Oakland.
"Green collar employment" arising from the development of solar energy, alternative fuel, energy conservation, and "green" building construction is one of the fastest job growth areas in California. As a major transportation center in northern California, near some of the finest, most technologically innovative colleges and universities in the country, Oakland can be the "Model City" for the "green" industry."
